Chapter 10

My mom, Bari, Kwanza, and her mother were all sitting behind me and my lawyer in the courtroom waiting for the judge. My lawyer had contacted me hours after I got back home saying we had a court date regarding Marquela’s custody. I could see Sharon, her mother, father, and fiancé on the other side of the room with their lawyer. The little patience I had being around them without setting shit off was starting to slip away just as the judge finally walked in.

"Who do we have here in the courtroom besides the parents of said minor child?" The judge asked, as soon as he sat down in the chair.

"Behind me and the father, we have his mother, Alena, his younger brother, Jabari, and the minor child's mother, Raziyah's, mother, Emerald, and her sister, Kwanza. Both of the minor child's grandmothers, uncle, and aunt." My lawyer, Jacob Jr. answered first.

"Behind the mother and I, we have the mother’s father, step-mother, and fiancé." Raziyah's lawyer answered.

"Do the parents have any problems with those individuals being in here while talks of the minor’s placement and other issues that may arise is going on?" Apparently since Marquela was a minor, her name wouldn't be said in court, and the judge had to make sure that we were okay with everyone being in the court room that were in there. The case proceeded when Raziyah and I both agreed that everyone in there could stay in there, despite her mugging her mother and sister.

"Normally, I would've just signed the paperwork, but I wanted to know what makes a mother give up all her rights to her child after five years. Just to make sure there is no mistakes on what's going on and that the child is in a safe environment." The judge announced.

"As a mother, woman, and judge, I’m both appalled and disgusted with you. The rights of the mother are here by revoked entirely and sole custody is given to the father." The judge made her ruling after she received all the evidence. I couldn't believe Raziyah was stupid enough to tell the judge the real reason why she was giving up her rights to Marquela. The child therapist Marquela had been going to since she was two or three said that she was improving in my care, too. It was the Court Appointed Special Advocate CASA time to take the stand. She stated that my home was acceptable and a great environment for Marquela to live in.

“Don’t leave just yet. My father wanted me to go over some things about the contract Mr. Marc’s lawyer sent for you to sign.” Jacob Jr. said when the judge left out of the room. He’s talking about the contract that the artist from the Bay had sent over so that I could go to the next round of the competition.

Jacob Jr. told me that the contract sent over would screw me and anyone else over who signed that shit after Raniyzah and her family left out of the courthouse.
